Friday, March 17, 2023 – Kileleshwa Ward MCA, Robert Onyango Alai, has accused a section of President William Ruto’s allies of inciting members of the Kikuyu community ahead of Azimio’s mass action on Monday.
Alai made these comments after Kikuyu Member of Parliament, Kimani Ichung’wah, and CAS nominee, Dennis Itumbi, claimed that the Azimio camp under Raila Odinga’s leadership plans to invade businesses owned by members of the Kikuyu community on Monday.
“Seems like the Kenya Kwanza team met yesterday (Wednesday) and agreed that they must try so hard to make this a Kikuyu vs Luo so as to remove Kikuyus from Azimio and incite ethnic animosity.”
“Bwana Ruto, your team is engaging in ethnic incitement and we see it. Stop it,” Alai said.
On Wednesday, Ichung’wah claimed that Raila wants to “punish our businesses over Mt Kenya’s refusal to support him”.
Similar claims were made by Itumbi in a Facebook post which he attributed to the Hustler Nation Intelligence Bureau (HNIB).
In the post, Itumbi claimed that Raila met Luo Nyanza MPs at the home of one of the MPs in Karen to plan for the Monday mass action.
He said they planned for a road show in Nairobi on Saturday and Sunday to mobilise supporters for the demos and destructive chaos.
“The plan is to invade “Kikuyu” business in Riveroad, Tom Mboya and Moi Avenue…So as to drive police to that side as the second group uses the Sagret route to access State House,” Itumbi wrote.
Raila has, however, dismissed the claims and assured members of the Kikuyu community that their businesses will be safe all through the street protests.
