Friday March 17, 2023 – Former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi’s KANU has announced that it does not recognise the individuals who defected to President William Ruto’s UDA.

This is after the former party’s Secretary General, Nick Salat, announced his move to UDA alongside a few members donning the KANU attire.

In a statement to Kenyans, KANU Secretary General, George Wainaina, noted that its members have not defected to any party and shall not opt for the same.

According to Wainaina, the team purporting to be KANU members were “hired” and should not be identified as members of the party.

“What is appalling to us is the misuse of our highly valued branded party merchandise to beg for bread crumbs from a government full to the brim by hired characters paraded in the full glare of the cameras,” read part of the statement.

The party SG further fingered Salat for conducting the “circus”, affirming that the party will not entertain individuals who try to tarnish the party’s name.

“What we will not take lying down is individuals gallivanting from one press conference to the other, duping Kenyans under the cover of our beloved party,” he noted.

“We wish to tell them that KANU, built on a very solid foundation, is not moved by their purported defections.”

He stated that KANU will remain committed to remain steadfast and united in promoting democracy, national unity, and social justice.
