Monday, March 27, 2023 – Former Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Kenya Commercial Bank Group PLC.

This is after he turned down President William Ruto’s request to rehire him to teach his successor Felix Koskei.

Ruto is said to have wanted Kinyua to help him steady the country after Koskei allegedly messed up things.

In a statement, KCB through its secretary Bonnie Okumu said Kinyua will serve on the Board starting March 24.

Kinyua’s 44 years in public service were cited as one of the reasons he was appointed to the role.

“He has a wealth of experience in implementing key government initiatives and reforms including the liberalization of the banking sector, the foreign exchange market and the trade and capital accounts of the balance of payments among other initiatives,” the statement read.

Kinyua had an illustrious career in Public Service for over 40 years.

During his four decades of service, he served Kenya’s four presidents including Daniel Moi, Mwai Kibaki, Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto for a few months.

He served as Head of Public Service in Uhuru’s tenure from 2013 to October 27, 2022, when he retired.

He was appointed permanent secretary in 2002 a few months before Moi proceeded to retirement.
