Wednesday, March 9, 2022 – A US-based agency has sued Mary Ngunyi Muiruri after she refused to refund $65, 683.50(Sh 7.4 million) that was erroneously deposited in her bank account.

The agency, which is entrusted with compensating victims of the 1998 Nairobi terror attack, claims that the money was supposed to go to Mary Njoki Muiruri but due to a mix-up in middle names, the money went to the wrong person.

The agency has requested the High Court to obtain a return order against her.

However, the woman is yet to respond to the suit.

She is said to have already spent a majority of the funds deposited in her bank account.

Court documents show that there was only $5, 553(Sh 633, 319) left in her bank account when the agency obtained a freeze order in February 2021.

She withdrew the monies by writing nine cheques between November 2020 and January 2021.
