Friday, March 11, 2022 – Sabatia MP Alfred Agoi has revealed that ANC Leader Musalia Mudavadi joined Deputy President William Ruto since he did not have the resources to mount a presidential campaign.
Speaking in Emuhaya, Mudavadi’s right-hand man said ANC’s initial strategy was to ensure that Mudavadi’s name would be on the ballot as a presidential candidate but they could not raise enough resources to sustain his presidential campaigns.
He noted that after realizing that the party was too broke to hold presidential campaigns, ANC came up with an alternative plan to counter the onslaught from Raila after their bitter breakup in the National Super Alliance (NASA).
“He (Musalia Mudavai) did not have enough resources to sustain the presidential campaigns. We were disadvantaged since we did not have the resources to face Raila Odinga and William Ruto in the campaigns,” he said.
“The only option for us then was to join the deputy president and work with him,” Agoi stated.
During the ANC National Delegates Convention (NDC) at the Bomas of Kenya on Sunday, January 23, Mudavadi announced that his party had officially ditched the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) and joined William Ruto’s camp.
The announcement saw his OKA co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper) and Gideon Moi (Kanu) storm out of the ANC delegates meeting.
Agoi, who has declared interest to succeed Vihiga Governor Wilberforce Otichilo in the forthcoming elections, faulted the ANC leaders who walked out of the party following Mudavadi’s move to work with Ruto, saying they were after their own selfish interests.
