Friday, March 11, 2022 – Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga brought businesses to a standstill yesterday after he took Meru by storm a day after Governor Kiraitu Murungi joined the Azimio La Umoja Movement.
Raila received a thunderous welcome in Meru as he traversed the county in search of votes.
The ODM leader began his day by leading a fundraiser of 3,500 members of various women groups in Meru at Maua Stadium.
Later on, Raila held a mega rally at Maili Tatu where he called on the police to stop unnecessary harassment of Boda Boda operators.
The former Prime minister warned against the blanket condemnation of riders in the country.
The Opposition Chief, while condemning the Wangari Maathai Road incident where a female motorist was assaulted in broad light, cautioned against victimizing innocent riders for the sins of others.
“There was an incident in Nairobi where a woman was attacked by Bodaboda operators, we must all condemn such. If someone makes a mistake that is a criminal and they should face the law. Let not all the riders made to pay for the crime of others,” Raila said.
He was accompanied by Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, Laikipia Governor Nderitu Murithi, former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, and National Assembly majority Whip Maoka Maore among others.
