Tuesday, March 15, 2022 – Protests erupted in Kiambu after Thika residents poured to the streets yesterday to demonstrate against Deputy President William Ruto for insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta during the Kenya Kwanza rally held at Thika Stadium on Sunday.
The angry protesters launched a scathing attack on Ruto, warning that they would not allow leaders to come and insult President Kenyatta in his own backyard.
They further questioned whether the Kenya Kwanza brigade didn’t have a manifesto to sell instead of going to insult leaders.
The residents were angered by Ruto’s words who directly hit out at President Kenyatta after he endorsed ODM leader Raila Odinga for the presidency.
They insisted that they would have still voted for President Kenyatta in the last elections even if they were not on good terms with DP Ruto.
The residents further maintained that they needed peaceful political events in the area without any insult on specific people.
During his Thika rally, Ruto said that it was an insult for Uhuru to endorse Raila Odinga for the presidency, yet millions voted for him in 2017 against the ODM leader.
He accused the President of betraying him at his hour of need and yet he had stood with him in hard times like when they were charged at the ICC.
He added that Raila is a puppet and that he will fail in the upcoming August polls.
“Mr. President, you have frustrated us, called us thieves, and chased us from parliamentary committees.
“We have suffered in those four years but I want to assure you that your puppet, Raila Odinga will fail,” Ruto stated.
