Tuesday, March 8, 2022 – COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli has dismissed Deputy President William Ruto’s recent statement that there was a conspiracy to rig the August presidential election.
On Wednesday, Ruto, who was on a 10-day USA tour, told a democracy forum at America’s Karson Institute for Race, Peace, and Justice that there were attempts to choreograph President Uhuru Kenyatta’s succession and ensure a predetermined outcome.
But in response on Sunday, Atwoli argued that Ruto has sensed defeat and that he is preparing the ground to refuse the outcome, a move that could raise the possibility of a fourth successive disputed presidential election outcome in Kenya since 2007.
“He (William Ruto) has already known that he is losing and is trying to build up a case on the justification of denying or refusing the outcome of the forthcoming elections which will be very absurd for him,” Atwoli said.
The vocal unionist further likened the DP to a good driver who knows that he has lost control of the car and that he was trying to keep the passengers updated on what they should expect.
“He is a good driver. You know a good driver knows when he loses control of the car more than the passengers,” Atwoli said.
