Tuesday, March 8, 2022 – After sensationally begging the US to help him stop President Uhuru Kenyatta from rigging his victory in August in favour of ODM Leader Raila Odinga, Deputy President William Ruto has changed tune on the rigging allegations.
The DP, who is on a political tour in the UK, recanted his earlier remarks of election rigging during an engagement with Kenyans living in the diaspora in London.
He noted that he has full confidence in the Wafula Chebukati-led IEBC in delivering credible elections and assured his supporters that the August 2022 General Election will be free and fair.
“Let me give you my word that this election will not be stolen and I have full confidence in our electoral processes.”
“If you look at me, I am not the type that anybody can steal their votes from. It is not possible,” Ruto said amid applause from the audience.
Ruto attributed his confidence to a series of wins, in Msambweni, Juja and Kiambaa where aspirants under the UDA ticket triumphed during hotly contested by-elections.
This, according to DP Ruto, demonstrates the impossibility of election manipulating an election, just months to the August polls.
“The only thing the handshake team can do is maybe to cause violence. However, even on that, we shall not allow it to happen,” said DP Ruto.
