Tuesday, March 15, 2022 – Business operations in Thika were brought to a standstill after irate residents took to the streets to protest against William Ruto for hurling insults at President Uhuru Kenyatta.

During William Ruto’s rally in Thika on Sunday, the Deputy President faulted President Uhuru Kenyatta for endorsing ODM leader, Raila Odinga.

Ruto further accused the Head of State of calling his UDA wing bad names yet they are the ones who made him President in the 2013 and 2017 General Elections.“You chased us out of parliamentary committees, called us names such as Tanga Tanga and thieves, but I want to remind you that we are the ones who stood by you during the 2013 and 2017 elections,” William Ruto said.

But on Monday, March 14, the locals held peaceful demonstrations in Thika town chanting anti-Ruto slogans to express their displeasure with the second in command and his troops.

Led by Mary Nyambura, the protesters said just like any other citizen, the President has a right to support whoever he thinks is best suited to lead the country once he retires.

While calling on the Kenya Kwanza leaders to respect President Uhuru’s decision, the locals said the first in command remains their political kingpin and that they will follow the direction he will give them in the August 9th elections.

“Our spokesperson from this region has a right to join any political vehicle as that is his democratic right.”

“It is very wrong for leaders to stand in public and abuse a President elected by all Kenyans,” Nyambura said.

The residents who were speaking to the media further asked the Deputy President to adopt an agenda-based campaign instead of using incitement remarks.

“As our President did, Ruto should adopt agenda-based campaigns instead of hiring our leaders to incite the people through non-existent claims. We are behind our president and whichever direction he shows us, we will follow without questioning,” Joseph Kimani, another resident, said.
