Friday, March 11, 2022 – The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned former Prime Minister Raila Odinga over disparaging remarks he made in Wajir County on Wednesday during an Azimio La Umoja Movement rally.

Raila, who was popularising his bid in the expansive county, asked residents to vote in 6-piece leaders for the Azimio La Umoja Movement.

“We want all of the Wajir candidates to be from the Azimio la Umoja movement. We’d like to make this an Azimio zone. No ‘ Madoadoa’ shall be welcomed in Wajir,” Raila said.

Ruto’s allies led by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Soy Member of Parliament, Caleb Kositany, asked DCI and DPP to move with speed and arrest Raila Odinga for using madoadoa remarks.

Now, NCIC has asked Raila Odinga to present himself before the commission’s offices and explain why he used Madoadoa words.

While the madoadoa phrase is often used to rally voters behind what is termed as six-piece voting where parties urge their constituents to elect candidates in all elective posts from their outfits, it also carries a negative connotation of ethnic cleansing.
