Thursday, March 10, 2022 – Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has predicted that Deputy President William Ruto will work with ODM leader Raila Odinga after the August General Election.
Speaking during an interview yesterday, Mutunga said in the event DP Ruto or Raila disputes the August presidential polls, foreign nations will come in and advocate for a handshake.
“One of the two factions (Kenya Kwanza Alliance or Azimio La Umoja) will win and if there is any threat to peace in the country after the election, foreign interest will step in as they did with President Uhuru and Raila,
“Will just tell them to have another handshake, and so we should expect Raila Odinga and DP Ruto to have another handshake,” Mutunga said.
With the possibility of a handshake between the yet-to-be registered Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja coalitions, the former chief justice called on Kenyans to have an alternative opposition in place.
“We should consider a people’s opposition because Kenyans never know when political parties called opposition come together and form handshakes and solidify their dictatorship,” Mutunga added.
Mutunga further predicted that the losing coalition will contest the results to the Supreme Court, warning the Court to be ready to handle a presidential petition.
“There definitely will be a presidential petition and they should be ready to deal with it. Any decision they make will please one group and be rejected by another. The Supreme Court should be aware of that and they will follow the Constitution and the law,” Mutunga foresaw.
