Wednesday, March 9, 2022 – Meru Governor and Devolution Empowerment Party Leader, Kiraitu Murungi, has finally made up his mind after he officially endorsed the Azimio La Umoja movement as his coalition of choice in the upcoming August 9 General Election.

Announcing his move to join Raila Odinga’s Azimio, Kiraitu further declared support for Raila’s presidential bid after a careful analysis of the political landscape and after consultations with his constituents.

“We have done our analysis, we have done our research, the next President of the Republic of Kenya is Raila Amollo Odinga,” he stated.

The Devolution Empowerment Party boss made the announcement in a meeting attended by ODM leaders Junet Mohamed (Suna East MP) and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, among others.

The announcement is a major about-turn from his recent political pronouncement in which he appeared to attack the coalitions of both Raila and Deputy President William Ruto.

Immediately after the Sagana meeting in February, he hit out at Raila’s campaign agenda that seeks to give the vulnerable people in Kenya a Ksh6,000 stipend.

At the time, he had argued that the two were cut from the same cloth due to their promises he claimed were not attainable.

He had also taken an issue with the DP’s plan to inject Ksh100 billion shillings to help uplift greengrocers and the youth in his bottom-up economic model.
