Monday, March 14, 2022 – Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who is the leader of the Azimio La Umoja Movement, has dismissed claims that he signed a political agreement with One Kenya Alliance (OKA) on Saturday.

In a statement issued by Raila Odinga’s spokesman, Prof. Makau Mutua, on Monday afternoon, there was no way they could ink a coalition-to-coalition because the new political parties law does not allow for such an arrangement.

Earlier on, former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka said that the coalition will be dubbed Azimio-OKA since OKA joined the coalition as an equal partner.

However, Mutua said such was not agreed upon during the signing ceremony.

“What was signed on Saturday was an agreement to form the Azimio coalition party. That is what was signed on Saturday,” Mutua said

He added that the parties joined the movement individually, and not as coalitions.

“Parties come to Azimio as individual political parties, they don’t come as alliances or coalitions. So whether it was Wiper, whether it was KANU, or whether it was ODM they all signed into that agreement as individual parties.”
