Tuesday, February 22, 2022 – A popular lecturer at Moi University has predicted the candidate developed countries and major superpowers will support as Kenya’s President in August.
President Uhuru Kenyatta will go home in August after serving for two five-year terms.
The race to succeed him has attracted a number of candidates but former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto are the two main contenders.
According to Prof Masibo Lumala, the United States and countries in the European Union will support a candidate who is friendly to them and who will also protect their interests.
The scholar opines that these countries are likely going to side with Raila Odinga because he has demonstrated that he is friendly to all countries, unlike Ruto who recently abused the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“As a presidential candidate, you do not make pronouncements that are likely to injure the relationship between Kenya and any other nation, or even lead to a situation where we have trade loss.
“If you compare the Deputy President and Mr. Odinga, obviously Mr. Odinga has the upper hand in terms of foreign policy and international relations because of his longstanding standing in the international community,” Prof. Masibo said.
