Wednesday, February 23, 2022 – Kikuyu Constituency Member of Parliament, Kimani Ichung’wah, has reacted to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s speech at Sagana on Wednesday, where he endorsed former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s presidential bid in August.
During his speech, Uhuru admonished his deputy, William Ruto, terming him as a thief who has derailed many Jubilee government projects due to his habit of stealing public money.
The President also praised his legacy, saying he has grown the economy from Sh 5 Trillion in 2013 to Sh 13 trillion in 2022.
But in his reaction, Kimani Ichung’wah, who is an economist, said Uhuru should be ashamed to say that he has grown the economy while the cost of basic commodities has tripled.
He also said Uhuru should explain to Kenyans how the debt has risen from Sh 1.8 trillion in 2013 to Sh 12 trillion in 2022.
“Someone remind me. In one and half years what’s the price of fertilizer? Kibaki left us with a 5 trillion economy, I hear it is at 13 trillion now. Someone remind me, Kibaki left us with a 1.8 trillion public debt, today the debt burden is at 12 trillion.
Why can’t we respect former president Mwai Kibaki?” Ichung’wah posed.
