Thursday, February 24, 2022 – Deputy President William Ruto has dismissed President Uhuru Kenyatta‘s move to endorse ODM leader Raila Odinga for the presidency in the forthcoming presidential elections.
Speaking at Sagana State Lodge when he hosted thousands of Mt Kenya residents, Uhuru affirmed that his handshake partner stands a better chance of steering the nation in the right direction than Ruto, whom he referred to as a liar and a thief.
“An old man on a stool sees further than a boy on a tree. Let me stick with the old man who I can talk to,” Uhuru said in an apparent reference to Raila.
“The person I will hand power to and you all know him and you have been mentioning his name, will inherit 13 trillion economies from me yet I inherited a 5 trillion economy from Kibaki,” Uhuru said as the crowd chanted Raila’s name.
But speaking in Makueni and Machakos counties during Kenya Kwanza rallies, Ruto said President Uhuru Kenyatta has no authority to decide who will be the fifth president.
According to Ruto, the decision on who will succeed the Jubilee party leader is in the hands of millions of Kenyan voters and not the Head of State.
At the same time, Ruto castigated Raila for compelling the president to drum up for his support in the August 9, General Election, saying that it was unfair for the ODM Leader who has never voted for Uhuru to give the outgoing president a heavy task of campaigning for him.
“Huyo Uhuru hamjawahi kumpigia kura, sahi mnamfanyisha kazi mingi na kazi ambayo ni ngumu ya kujaribu kuongea na raiaati apigie mtu ya kitendawili… Sasa, hiyo kazi itawezekana kweli?” Ruto stated.
