Thursday, February 24, 2022 – ODM Leader Raila Odinga’s Azimio La Umoja movement has lost one of its key advocates and supporters to Deputy President William Ruto.
Betty Maina, a staunch supporter of Jubilee, dumped President Uhuru Kenyatta’s party and joined Ruto’s UDA after hosting ODM Leader Raila Odinga in Murang’a last month.
According to photos shared on Wednesday, Maina donned the official UDA colours and posed for a photo with Deputy President William Ruto, Kiharu Member of Parliament, Ndindi Nyoro, and his Mathira counterpart, Rigathi Gachagua.
“Welcome to UDA – Kazi ni Kazi Athi Water Director Betty N Maina. Wishing you the best as we move forward together.
“The Hustler Nation is growing hugely. We are African and Africa is our Business,” Nyoro stated as he welcomed the politician to the UDA brand.
Maina has expressed interest in vying for the Murang’a Woman Representative seat on a UDA ticket, in a bid to oust the incumbent, Sabina Chege.
“Happy for you my little sister Betty Maina for your bold decision to vie for women Rep Muranga county On UDA ticket.
“You join the league of bold and youthful women like Emma Wangari and Kawangui of Kiambu and Karen Nyamu of Nairobi.”
“I encourage aspiring young women to boldly stand and take up the spaces,” Kiambu County Woman Representative, Gathoni Wamuchomba stated.
Her defection coincided with the Sagana III meeting where Uhuru endorsed Raila as he told Kikuyus why he fell out with Ruto.
Maina, who is a board member of the Athi waterworks Development Agency, was recently on the spot after photos surfaced on social media of a posh mansion she built for her parents with critics questioning her source of wealth.
