Wednesday, 26 January 2022 – A security guard narrated to the court how his stolen identity card almost implicated him in the murder of city businesswoman Monica Kimani.

According to Dominic Hosea, his identity card was stolen at the Royal Park estate in Lang’ata where Jowie and Jacque Maribe lived.

The ID card was discovered at Monica Kimani’s apartment in Kilimani, where her lifeless body was discovered by her brother.

Testifying in the case where Jowie and Maribe are facing trial for killing Monica on September 19, 2018, the guard told the judge, “ I have never been to Lamuria Gardens Apartment.

“I don’t even know where it is. I was shocked when I was summoned by police officers and told that my identity card had been recovered at a crime scene,”,

He had gone to Royal Park estate to do some manual work in a construction site together with other workers and before they were allowed into the estate, they were ordered to surrender their identity cards at the gate.

When they were leaving in the evening, he found his ID card missing.

“When we were leaving in the evening, all other workers got their identity cards but mine was missing.

“The security guard searched everywhere but he didn’t find it,” he said.

When he went to the construction site the next day, his identity card was still missing.

He gave his details to the security guards who promised to call him once they found the card.

After he received his payment, he travelled to Kisii where he stayed for almost a month since he was on leave.

When he returned to Nairobi and reported to work at the University of Nairobi where he worked as a security guard, he was arrested by detectives and taken to DCI headquarters, where he was informed that his identity card had been found at a murder scene.

He was later released after recording a statement.

It’s believed that Jowie used the stolen identity card to access Monica Kimani’s apartment on the fateful day that she was murdered in cold blood.
