Friday, January 28, 2022 – The government has reportedly denied Deputy President William Ruto and Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader, Musalia Mudavadi, permit to conduct a rally in Kirinyaga County today.
Ruto, Mudavadi, and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula were supposed to hold a rally at Wanguru Stadium, but according to Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, they were denied the permit on flimsy grounds.
Waiguru said the authorities told her that the stadium will not be used because it is still under construction.
“We are very shocked as leaders in Kirinyaga County having been denied the permit to hold a rally with Deputy President William Ruto at Wang’uru stadium.
“When we booked the stadium we were told that it is not complete, yet it hosted Mashujaa Day, PS Karanja Kibicho has also been using it for meetings,” Waiguru said.
However, Waiguru said the rally will proceed as planned and the Deputy President will land at Thiba where he will address several roadside rallies.
“We have agreed that even if we have not been allowed to hold the rally at the stadium, it will still go on.
“This discrimination and lack of giving people a level playfield will not go unnoticed. Kirinyaga people have taken note. Kirinyaga is squarely locked under UDA,” Waiguru said.
