Thursday June 25, 2020 – The woes facing Nairobi County Speaker, Beatrice Elachi, are way far from over after MCAs threatened to impeach her for the second time.
Elachi and Ward Representatives allied to her were forced to spend the night in the Assembly after they got wind of plans by the recently reinstated Majority Leader, Abdi Guyo, to oust her.
Guyo and former clerk, Jacob Ngwele, are reported to have arrived at the Assembly as early as 4am on Thursday, June 25th, heavily armed with crude weapons along with a group of goons.
Chaos erupted at the Assembly after Guyo and his team was blocked from accessing the premises forcing police to use teargas to disperse the group.
Ngwele was arrested during the chaos after he was found with three guns in his car and is currently held at Central Police station.
Speaking after the chaos, Elachi blamed her woes on Jubilee Party Secretary-General, Raphael Tuju, saying he was behind the second wave of an attempt to impeach her.
Elachi was impeached in 2018 and spent over a year out of office before she was reinstated by the court and an agreement between the party leadership and the MCAs.
