Saturday, June 27, 2020 – Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Waiguru, survived an impeachment motion on Friday after an 11 member Senate committee acquitted her of charges facing her.
Sharing her thoughts on social media after she was acquitted, Waiguru called on the County Assembly to join her in addressing challenges identified by the Senate’s Special Committee which was established to investigate allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office leveled against her.
The corrupt Governor said that she will embark on a reconciliation process to heal the rifts caused by the battles that saw the Assembly pass an impeachment motion against her.
She said the MCAs should own up to their failures and play their part in prioritizing allocation of funds for Covid19 management and healthcare projects as proposed by the Executive instead of strong-arming her to fund projects such as the building of MCAs’ offices.
Waiguru agreed with the report’s findings which called for improvement in administration by officers and the need for better checks and balances.
“I would like to assure Kirinyaga residents that this will not go unaddressed and that the necessary changes and improvements will be made to both human resource and systems to improve service delivery to the people of Kirinyaga,” she said.
Waiguru was impeached by Kirinyaga MCAs on June 16th over gross misconduct and violation of the constitution.
However, the committee, in its ruling, acquitted the Governor saying the MCAs failed to substantiate their claims.
