Sunday June 21, 2020 – Embattled Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru delivered mountains of evidence to the Senate on Saturday, June 20, in defence of her impeachment.
Through her social media accounts, Waiguru revealed that she had presented her documents to the Senate in the evening hours.
“Today at about 4:20 PM, I filed responses to the impeachment motion with substantive responses to each of the allegations leveled against me,” she stated.
The documents, labeled in separate boxes totaling not less than 15 will be presented to the 11-member committee set to decide the embattled Governor’s fate.
“I have full confidence in my legal team and believe my response is sound.”
“Let’s allow the Senate to do its work.”
“I have confidence in the rule of law and believe that Truth and Justice will be our shield and defender,” she added.
The Senate voted on Tuesday to support the formation of a select committee to investigate accusations leveled against the Kirinyaga Governor in the impeachment motion against her.
The 11-member committee established to investigate Waiguru will be chaired by Kakamega Senator, Cleophas Malala.
Malala will be deputised by Abshiro Halake, a Kenya African National Union (KANU) Nominated Senator and Vice-Chair of Information Communication Technology (ICT) committee.
Members of the Kirinyaga County Assembly who voted overwhelmingly to impeach Waiguru had appealed to the Senate not to frustrate the process.
They accused Waiguru and members of her administration of involvement in graft and abuse of office.
