Tuesday June 9, 2020 – Narc Kenya chairperson, Martha Karua, has weighed in on the ongoing frosty relationship between Chief Justice David Maraga and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
On Monday, Maraga claimed that Uhuru had refused to respond to his numerous attempts to have a meeting together to discuss issues surrounding the Judiciary.
Maraga said that the delay by the president in appointing the 41 judges has led to a backlog of cases currently facing the Judiciary.
As a result, Maraga said the move has crippled its operations.
On Tuesday, Karua who is also the former Justice and Constitution Minister delved into the matter and said that Uhuru’s refusal to meet Maraga is an act of cowardice and lack of leadership qualities.
“It is a failure of leadership for the President to refuse to see David Maraga especially when there is a standoff that needs solving,” he said.
She concluded by saying that both the Executive and the Judiciary should have consultations without eroding their independence.
