Tuesday June 16, 2020 – President Uhuru Kenyatta is reportedly planning to replace Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiangi, with a stronger man who will command respect from the police and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
Impeccable sources say Uhuru is planning to do a Cabinet reshuffle any time this week and Matiangi is among CSs who will be shown the door.
A source privy to the Cabinet reshuffle says Retired Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Samson Mwathethe is the front-runner to take over the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government.
Uhuru and his top advisors have, in recent days, been locked in day-long meetings working on what State observers believe to be a radical reorganization of the Government that will see Matiang’i fired from the powerful interior docket.
Mwathethe, who not only has 42 years of military experience but has also been one of Uhuru’s most trusted advisors over the last few years.
This is a factor that has made him find favour with powerbrokers around the President who want him to replace the abrasive and authoritarian Matiang’i.
