Thursday, June 18, 2020 – Detectives from theDirectorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) arrested three suspects behind a car theft syndicate on Wednesday and recovered five stolen motor vehicles in different parts of Trans Nzoia County.

The suspects found in possession of three stolen motor vehicles were arrested within Kitale, while one vehicle was found at a car wash bay in Kiminini and the fifth one in Matunda.

Detectives swung into action following reports of over 11 motor vehicle thefts in a short span within the region.

On 12th June, 2020, the detectives spotted a suspicious Nissan Wingroad car along the Sotik-Kericho Road with three occupants, who defied orders to stop.

This prompted a chase but two suspects jumped out of the vehicle and managed to disappear on foot while the other suspected, 25-year-old Aaron Kibet Chepkwony was arrested.

After further investigation, the vehicle was found to have been stolen from a Matunda-based police officer after which fake number plates were fixed on it.

Anyone who may have lost his car is urged to report to DCI Kitale with their proof of ownership for identification.

Arrested suspects to be charged accordingly as investigations continue in pursuit of more recoveries & neutralizing the entire syndicate.
