Tuesday, June 23, 2020 – A 32-year old man died on Monday June 22nd after developing breathing complications while in Mayanja Police Post in Bungoma where he was being held over defilement allegations.
According to Silvester Nyakundi, the officer in charge of the police post, he heard commotion in the cells and when he went to see what was happening, he found other prisoners trying to assist the deceased.
“The OCS was informed, and on a visit to the cells, the suspect was found already dead,” says a police report filed at the police post under OB Number 22/6/2020.
The deceased was scheduled to be arraigned for defilement later on Monday, June 22.
“The suspect had been subjected to mob justice prior to his arrest, and had been treated at Bungoma County Referral Hospital and discharged after his condition improved,” said the report filed at 6:05am Monday.
The body was taken to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital morgue awaiting postmortem.
