Saturday, June 13, 2020 – A recently acquired Kenya Police chopper crashed in Kaithe Kithoka in Meru on Saturday morning, injuring six officers.

The Agusta Westland #AW911, 5Y NPW, left Nairobi Wilson Airport at dawn and made one successful landing before it crashed in Meru.

Initial suspicion for the crash points to bad weather but the Kenya Police Airwing and Interior Air Crash investigation team have prioritised to focus on the fate of those who were onboard

According to Police Spokesman Charles Owino, the chopper was carrying security personnel from Eastern, who were headed to Sololo in Marsabit for a security meeting.

“The officers have been rushed to Meru Level Five Hospital but plans are underway to airlift them for specialised treatment,” he said.

Those injured include the Eastern Regional County Commissioner and Police Chief.
