Wednesday, 10 June 2020 – Deceased Burundi President, Pierre Nkuruzinza, who died on Monday after suffering a cardiac arrest, was a football fanatic besides being a politician.
The former rebel leader, who ruled with an iron fist, graduated in Sports Education and when he was a lecturer at the University of Burundi before he joined politics, he was actively involved in sports and his love for sports continued after he became the Head of State.
As President, he had his own football club known as Hallelujah FC.
He was also a volleyball player and when he was rushed to hospital on Sunday after collapsing, he was attending a volleyball match.
In this video, the late Nkuruzinza, a very ruthless dictator who changed the constitution to cling to power, is seen displaying his football skills.
