Sunday June 7, 2020 – Narc Kenya chairperson, Martha Wangari Karua, has lambasted President Uhuru Kenyatta for removing allies of Deputy President William Ruto from crucial positions and committees in the Senate and National Assembly.
Sharing her thoughts via social media on Saturday, Karua said that the President’s move is an act of cowardice and said that he should learn to tolerate divergent views.
Karua said in a democracy, divergent views must be tolerated and the President should have allowed freedom of expression in his party.
“He can sack and appoint as he pleases in Government but not the party,” Karua tweeted.
The Narc Kenya boss said a party does not belong to the leader but to its membership.
“Decisions must emanate from the National Executive Committee NEC which may include those he does not agree with,” she said.
Some of Ruto’s allies who have lost key leadership positions both in the Senate and National Assembly are Senators Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet), Susan Kihika (Nakuru), Samson Cherargei (Nandi), Mithika Linturi (Meru) and Christopher Lang’at (Bomet).
Others are MPs Benjamin Washiali (Mumias East), Cecily Mbarire (Nominated).
