Tuesday, June 23, 2020 – KTN Swahili news anchor, Mary Kilobi, has opened up on her private life with veteran trade unionist and politician, Francis Atwoli.
Kilobi, 34, left tongues wagging when she married Atwoli, 70, two years ago and she has described the firebrand COTU boss as a respectful and adorable character.
During an interview on YouTube, Kilobi disclosed that she had known Atwoli for more than a decade before their union.
She also revealed that they started dating after their respective previous relationships failed to work.
“I met him in 2005 when I was working at UBC (Uganda Broadcasting Corporation) in Kampala.”
“He came in for an interview and as was the norm, Kenyans working at the station would be called in to say jambo to a visiting Kenyan,” she recounted.
“We remained in touch even when I came to Nairobi and joined KTN years later.”
“Thereafter, we had a difficult period when I separated with my previous boyfriend in a relationship that I really regret and I think he also had challenges in his relationship at that time.”
“So he told me ‘Mary, I cannot live alone in Nairobi, my first wife is in the village and I don’t want to have another relationship with you other than you being my wife.”
“If you are ready that is fine’,”
She went on to gush over Atwoli describing him as a loving man.
“He treats me so well. He respects me. He shows me, genuine love.”
“If people doubt there is love then you need to look at us.”
“It is not about (his) money.”
“There are people with money but do not respect others. Money is an added advantage of course.”
On his part, Atwoli once said that his busy schedule coupled with advanced age forced him to marry Kilobi as a third wife-cum private assistant.
“Some people marry out of greed, but not in my case. I married because of work,”
“I must have someone to manage me and my time. I’ve grown old and I need someone to remind me to take medication and keep me up to date with appointments,” he said
