Thursday June 18, 2020 – Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, has distanced himself from Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru’s woes saying he was not behind her impeachment.
Last week, Kirinyaga County Assembly impeached Waiguru over what they termed as gross misconduct and violation of the constitution.
When Waiguru was impeached, the Governor’s supporters accused the powerful PS of being behind the impeachment because he has interest in the seat in 2022.
However, Kibicho said the allegations were based on “rumours and innuendo”.
“I have the right to defend myself from baseless accusations and rumours.”
“I come from Kirinyaga County but have never declared interest in politics and I have no intentions to do so.”
“I am a public servant.”
“Why would I engage in local politics?”
“To gain what?” Kibicho said
“It’s two years to the polls.”
“I should have started campaigning if I wanted to join politics.”
“People must carry their own cross instead of dragging in my name,” Kibicho added.
Waiguru’s fate will now be decided by an 11 member Senate committee in the next 10 days.
