Saturday, June 13, 2020 – Last year, Deputy President William Ruto told nominated MP, Maina Kamanda, to retire from politics because of his advanced age.
Maina, 74, has been in politics for over 40 years serving as a councillor, an MP and is now nominated MP.
Ruto, who was speaking in Saba Saba, Muranga County, told the octogenarian to retire and go to his rural home in Muranga County and wait for pesa ya wazee.
One year later, Kamanda has been sent for temporary retirement by Coronavirus.
Sources say that Kamanda has been resting in his home for fear that he may contract the disease that has devastating effects on old men, women and the vulnerable.
“Yes he has been staying at his home for fear he might contract the deadly disease,” said an aide.
Kamanda is among Mt Kenya region leaders who are opposed to Ruto’s presidential bid in 2022.
