Saturday June 20, 2020 – Details of a coalition deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader, Raila Odinga, ahead of the 2022 General Elections have emerged.
According to reports, Uhuru and Raila are working on plans to form a coalition ahead of the 2022 General Elections.
Reports indicated that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the ruling Jubilee Party may sign cooperation deal in a number of areas including division of positions, management of national affairs among other political interests.
On Friday, ODM chairman, John Mbadi, stated that the party was willing to form a new outfit with Jubilee and other political players.
“It is no secret that there will be a new outfit.”
“Parties are formed to win power and govern.”
“They are not charitable organisations.”
“Towards the 2022 elections, political visibility and strength will be achieved only if we strategise properly,” Mbadi stated.
Mbadi added that the deal with Jubilee will not involve Government appointments.
“We must practice what we preach.”
“Ours is a long haul and not for short-term gains but people should not be shocked if ODM insiders get government appointments,” Mbadi stated.
On May 10th, Siaya Senator James Orengo hinted at a political alliance between the President and Odinga.
He stated that the two have been working together and will continue to do so even in future.
“There is a high possibility that the two top leaders will form a political alliance ahead of 2022 because they are closely working together to stabilise the country,” Orengo stated.
Orengo revealed that the duo will ensure Kenyans get accountable leadership to steer the country ahead.
Sources revealed that Orengo is leading the legal team drafting the coalition papers.
So far, Wiper Party led by Kalonzo Musyoka and Chama cha Mashinani led by Isaac Ruto, have already signed cooperation agreements with Jubilee.
