Friday June 12, 2020 – President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to tour the Mount Kenya region for the first time after a bitter fallout with Deputy President William Ruto that has caused serious rebellion in the region.
The Head of State is expected to tour Meru County with Governor Kiraitu Murungi already preparing for the visit.
Uhuru and ODM leader, Raila Odinga, were reportedly forced to postpone their visit to Mount Kenya region from April to the period between June and December 2020 after learning that a section of political leaders was planning to orchestrate a rebellion against them.
The leaders, who were allegedly plotting the rebellion, were then aligned to DP Ruto, who has been accused of opposing the ‘handshake’ between the President and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Ruto had made inroads in the region and enjoyed the support of most leaders until Kenyatta cracked the whip against the DP and his allies.
