Thursday June 11, 2020 – Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Waiguru, has suffered a career threatening blow after the case she had filed challenging her impeachment was dismissed.

JusticeWeldon Korir declined to overturn the impeachment of the Kirinyaga Governor ruling that the Kirinyaga MCAs didn’t violate any court order.

Korir also ruled that Waiguru will cater for the costs of the suit.

In her court papers, the embattled Waiguru had claimed that the impeachment was unlawful because the High Court had temporarily stopped assembly proceedings over Covid19.

She obtained a court order to block the County Assembly from impeaching her but it was disregarded.

Waiguru was impeached after 23 of the 33 MCAs in the County voted for her removal while only six abstained.

Her fate is now in the hands of the Senate after Speaker Kenneth Lusaka confirmed receiving her impeachment resolution.

As per the law, the Senate Speaker is expected to convene a meeting of the Senate to hear charges against the Governor within seven days of receipt of the notification.

The MCAs, during the special sitting, tabled evidence that led to their decision to impeach Waiguru.

Kinyua Wangui, the MCA for Mutira Ward, detailed several tenders that raised questions of conflict of interest as well as misappropriation of public funds.
