Friday June 26, 2020 – Sirisia MP, John Waluke, and his con friend, Grace Wakhungu, have been sentenced to 7 years in prison if they fail to pay a fine of Sh727 million and Sh707 million fines respectively.
This is after the court found the two guilty for fraudulently receiving Ksh 297 million from the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).
In her ruling, Magistrate Elizabeth Juma issued fines of varying amounts to the accused with the highest being a fine of Ksh 594,175,000 or a jail sentence of seven years on the third count.
Wakhungu’s fines totaled Ksh707.7 million as she was issued with fines in accordance with sentencing laws when it came to corruption cases.
The two were charged alongside Erad Supplies & General Contracts Limited (Erad); a company where the two are shareholders.
Juma ordered that the conviction for Waluke be served to the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Public Service Commission (PSC).
She further noted that if the fine is paid, NCPD will be compensated for the amount lost.
Waluke was represented by Lawyers Evans Ondieki, Samson Nyamberi, Cliff Ombeta and Dunstan Omari while Assistant Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Alexander Muteti, Gitonga Riungu, and Mercy Gateru represented the State in the matter.
