Friday, June 26, 2020 – Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Waiguru, has been found innocent in her impeachment trial, ending her County residents’ bid to remove her from office.
The Senators concluded that Kirinyaga MCAs did not substantiate their claims against her.
“The Committee having investigated the matter in accordance with its mandate under section 33(4) of the County Governments Act and standing order 75(2) of the Senate Standing Orders reports to the Senate that it finds that the charges against the Governor have not been substantiated,” said the special committee chairperson, Cleophas Malala.
However, the committee recommended the prosecution of the Kirinyaga County Supply Chain Management Director, Joseph Carilus Otieno, and tender committee members led by Pauline Kamau.
The committee also asked tender committee members Wayne Gichira and Pauline Kamau to step aside.
The told the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate Kirinyaga County tenders.
