Tuesday June 16, 2020 – Tanzania’s Government has said that there are 66 new cases of coronavirus putting the national tally at 546.
Making the announcement on Tuesday, Tanzania’s Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa said that the 66 patients were hospitalised in 10 regions and that the rest of the 16 regions did not have an active case.
President John Magufuli declared the country “coronavirus-free” days ago thanks to prayers by citizens.
“The corona disease has been eliminated thanks to God,” Mr Magufuli told worshippers in a church in the capital, Dodoma, last week.
The United States Government warned last month that hospitals in Dar es Salaam were “overwhelmed” and that chances of contracting the virus was “extremely high” – but did not give evidence to back up its claims.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has also expressed concern over how the Tanzanian Government has been fighting Covid19.
