Wednesday June 10, 2020 – Health CAS, Dr Rashid Aman, has said that the Government will discharge 78 percent of Covid19 patients, especially those who are asymptomatic.

Addressing a Press Conference at Afya House, Dr Rashid noted that there was no need for asymptomatic patients to take up resources in hospitals as the majority of patients are either mildly symptomatic or asymptomatic.

“There are those who do not need specialised treatment.”

“For them, home care will help in offloading and freeing up our health workers to deal with urgent cases,” Rashid noted.

Dr Rashid stated that implementation of this directive will begin immediately.

He added that members of the family will be properly trained as home caregivers and equipped with the new guidelines.

He said that home care will also aid in minimising transmission in the community setting.

The move will make Kenya among the first countries in Africa to implement home-based care after Nigeria and Ghana.
