Friday June 26, 2020 – The Registrar of Political Parties (RPP), Anne Nderitu, has ordered Amani National Congress (ANC) to organise elections as soon as possible.

In a statement to Kenyans, Nderitu has also ordered the party to provide timelines for the elections as pressure to kick out party leader Musalia Mudavadi mounts.

“In light of the above, kindly avail information on timelines and notification of the ANC elections in line with Articles 18, 22 and 26 of the ANC constitution,” the registrar said in a letter written to Secretary-General Barrack Muluka.

The wrangles within Amani National Congress (ANC) have taken a new twist, with the focus centred on Musalia Mudavadi’s position of Party Leader.

For over a month, the ANC management has been embroiled in a public war of words with Nominated MP, Godfrey Osotsi, who claimed that the term of current officeholders had expired.

The MP demanded that fresh elections be conducted in the party and a letter from the Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu has piled up more woes on the party.

Nderitu ordered Mudavadi to avail timelines for elections in a letter dated Tuesday, June 23rd, addressed to ANC Secretary-General Barrack Muluka.

“In light of the above, kindly avail information on timelines and notification of the ANC elections in line with Articles 18, 22 and 26 of the ANC Constitution.”

“Section 7 of the Political Parties Act provides that the composition of the governing body should reflect regional and ethnic diversity, gender balance and representation of special groups” Nderitu directed.

ANC youth leader, Angela Gathoni, had petitioned the Registrar to declare the National Executive Council (NEC) and all other party organs vacant.

She argued that Mudavadi and other NEC members were in office illegally.

On Friday, ANC kicked Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala out of the party and may even lose his seat if Nderitu approves the ANC decision.
