Monday, June 22, 2020 – K24, the struggling Media House that is owned by President Uhuru’s family, has sacked several journalists, hours after they were declared redundant.

The affected journalists received the bad news via a text message on Sunday night.

The message sent by Human Resources Manager Maureen Wandera reads:

“I am contacting you with regards to the redundancy notice issued on 21st of May 2020.”

“The notice period has expired. Unfortunately your position has been affected by way of redundancy.”

“I would like to invite you to Emory Hotel in Kileleshwa tomorrow, Monday 22nd at 8:55am to discuss what this means to your employment.”

“When you get to the hotel, kindly ask for me.”

“We thank you for your indulgence and cooperation in this matter.”

Ms. Kiguta, who is the only senior journalist spared by the purge, has taken to social media to console those who have been fired.

“It takes a ❤️TEAM❤️. #Punchline is an intense program.

“Often before we go on air we are a bee hive of actives.

“But yesterday my crew put on this old school hit and well I couldn’t help myself 🤣🤣🤣

“We had a great program but little did we know that nearly my entire team would have put on air their last production at K24.

“It was a great pleasure working with you all and getting to know you.

“You are ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Thank you for all your technical support on #Punchline.
