Thursday, June 4, 2020 – Over 117 MPs have signed a petition asking President Uhuru Kenyatta to kick out Garissa Town MP, Aden Duale, from the powerful office of Majority Leader.
The MPs led by Kieni MP, Kanini Kega, claim that Uhuru did not publicly endorse Duale during the Jubilee Parliamentary Group meeting in State House on Tuesday when he read out names of those he wanted retained.
During the tense PG meeting, Kenyatta announced the removal of Benjamin Washiali and Cecily Mbarire but left out Duale to the dismay of Kanini Kega and his coterie.
The over 117 MPs now say they will move a motion of no confidence against Duale in the coming weeks.
But commenting about the impeachment motion, Duale said it was unfortunate that the proponents of the petition failed to raise their issues at the State House PG meeting.
“I am used to Kanini Kega’s petitions.”
“He brought two against me in the 11th Parliament but they both flopped.”
“He needs to acquaint himself with the procedures for appointing and removing parliamentary leaders in accordance with the law,” he said.
