Monday, June 1, 2020 – Confusion and mayhem have rocked Ford Kenya after the party’s National Governing Council ousted Bungoma Senator, Moses Wetangula, as party leader and replaced him with Kanduyi MP, Wafula Wamunyinyi.
The party announced the new changes on Sunday morning but Wetangula dismissed them and insisted that he is still the bona fide party leader and termed the coup as the work of fraudsters and opportunists.
Just minutes after his ouster, Wetangula called a media briefing at the party’s headquarters to condemn what he described as a coup in the ‘Lion party’.
Wetangula said that the real Ford Kenya NEC has suspended all the members who took part in the unlawful meeting to overthrow the party leadership.
“All these coup plotters led by Bungoma Governor, Wycliffe Wangamati, Tongaren MP, Dr Eseli Simiyu and Kanduyi MP, Wafula Wamunyinyi, have all been suspended until further notice,” Wetangula said.
Commenting after Wetangula suspended him, Dr Eseli said the move to oust Wetangula was approved by party members because he is running the party as his personal trading shop.
“The journey to reclaim back our party has started so that to bring back to the ideal that inspired our forefathers to form the party.”
“Recently, it has become somebody’s trading shop and we cannot go on like this.”
“It is just a journey to reclaim back Ford Kenya Party from traders,” Eseli said.
