Wednesday May 20, 2020 – Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has dumped Deputy President William Ruto at his hour of need.
This is after she signed a petition to remove Ruto’s friend, Senator Kithure Kindiki, as Senate Deputy Speaker.
Omanga, a vocal ally of Ruto, is among Senators supporting the motion to oust Kindiki.
A list that surfaced on Wednesday, May 20th indicated that 48 Senators had expressed their support for the motion, appending their signatures and I.D numbers to the document.
The motion to oust Kindiki was filed by Majority Whip Irungu Kang’ata in the Senate on Tuesday, May 19th.
Omanga’s name stood out because allies of the Deputy President have opposed changes in the leadership of the Majority side in the Senate, which started with the removal of former Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen and former Majority Whip, Susan Kihika.
Other than Jubilee legislators, the motion to remove Kindiki is backed by several leaders from Opposition parties including the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and Wiper.
The purge, seen to be targeting the Deputy President’s men, is expected to proceed to the National Assembly where his allies hold key positions.
Omanga was among 5 Nominated Senators asked to provide Show Cause letters to the Jubilee Party after failing to attend a Senate Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting in State House, Nairobi on Monday, May 11th to approve the changes.
