Tuesday May 12, 2020 – President Uhuru Kenyatta seems to have become a ruthless dictator going by the changes he made in the Senate on Monday after a Jubilee Party Parliamentary Group meeting at State House, Nairobi.
During the meeting chaired by the Head of State, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator, Kipchumba Murkomen, was removed as Senate Majority Leader and Nakuru Senator, Susan Kihika, was removed as Majority Whip.
Murkomen’s position was taken by West Pokot Senator, Samuel Poghisio, while Kihika’s position was taken by Muranga Senator, Irungu Kangata.
On Tuesday, Speaker of the Senate, Kenneth Lusaka, approved the changes that were made by Jubilee Party on Monday.
Mr Lusaka, who said that he will give a detailed ruling at a later date, said that he was satisfied that due process was followed.
“I am satisfied that the changes were made in accordance with the Senate Standing Orders 19 (1), (2), (3), (40), (5), and (7), and meets the threshold required under Standing Order 19 (5) there having been a majority of votes,” Lusaka ruled on Tuesday.
But according to Murkomen, Lusaka was threatened by the deep state if he refused to approve the changes.
“Mr Speaker, this is not your decision. You made this decision under duress and undue influence and I am sorry you had to do it. Thank you, Mr Speaker.” Murkomen stated on Tuesday.
Sources said Lusaka was told by the deep state that they will revive his corruption cases while serving as Bungoma County Governor if he refuses to approve the changes made by the Jubilee Party.
