Saturday May 30, 2020 – Kenyatta University don, Prof Edward Kisiangani, has lambasted a section of Luhya Community leaders who met in Kajiado County on Friday to drum up support for the elusive Luhya community unity.
The Kajiado meeting took place in the home of Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General, Francs Atwoli, and was attended by over 60 Luhya leaders including Governors, Cabinet Secretaries, Senators and MPs.
The meeting came up with several proposals that will fast track the revival of Western Kenya’s economy.
This includes the restoration of the granite industry in Vihiga County, gold refining in Ikolomani and the revival of the sugar industry.
While reacting to the meeting, Prof Kisiangani said that the meeting was attended by leaders who don’t have interests of the Luhya community at heart.
Kisiangani also said the Mulembe nation has not approved to be represented by such leaders.
“Luhyia leaders who met at Atwoli’s home in Kajiado today do not represent the genuine aspirations of the Mulembe nation.”
“If an independent poll was to be held today, results would show the Mulembe nation does not approve what these leaders are engaged in,” Prof Kisiangani said.
