Tuesday, May 5, 2020 – A 25-year old man succumbed to injuries after he was assaulted by his parents and sisters for demanding a share of dowry paid to one of his sisters.
The shocking incident happened in Kamweani village in Kithimani Location, Machakos County, on Saturday night.
The parents and the two sisters are currently being held at the Yatta Police Post.
According to Yatta Sub-County police boss, Mary Njoki, the deceased, who has been identified as Francis Mulwa Muthama, arrived home drunk and first demanded supper.
After eating his dinner, he accused his 62-year-old mother, Monica Muthama, of denying him a share of the dowry paid for his sisters.
The ensuing argument degenerated into chaos with the father and two sisters ganging up against him and assaulting him with crude weapons.
The assault left him with serious injuries and he was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital in Yatta.
Police arrested the father, Bernard Muthama, and sisters Mary Nduku and Teresia Nthenya after the mother reported the incident.
