Monday, May 18, 2020 – Three children died at their home in Kuresoi South, Nakuru County after presenting a fever, dry cough, headache, and running nose.
While these are classic symptoms of the dreaded Covid19 virus, medics from Kiptagwany Health Centre said the children succumbed to swine flu.
“The three died at home as it was assumed they were suffering from normal flu that affects minors,” a health officer said.
According to health officials, two of the children had heart problems and other health complications that might have led to their deaths.
Reports indicate that the outbreak of swine flu was first reported in the area in February and a total of 270 cases have been reported.
Nakuru County Public Health Chief Officer, Samuel King’ori, said that he advised the County to open an in-patient ward at Kiptangwany Health Centre to avoid the spread of the disease.
“Referrals for swine flu are discouraged because it might cause more contamination, and infect more people.”
“This is why the 32-bed capacity ward was opened,” he stated.
