Sunday May 17, 2020 – Madagascar’s President, Andry Rajoelina, has told Africans not to trust the World Health Organisation (WHO) in combating the Coronavirus disease.

In an interview with France 24 on Saturday, Rajoelina who has been making headlines over Madagascar‘s herbal drug that is treating COVID19 disease, said he was approached by WHO to poison the drug so that it can kill as many Africans as possible.

The President said that he was offered Sh 2 billion by WHO to poison the drug that has proven to be effective in managing and treating COVID19 patients.

The drug, COVID-Organics drink, is made from Artemisia Annua (Sweet Wormwood) and Herbs.

When asked about these claims by Madagascar’s President, WHO Regional Office for Africa Director, Matshidiso Moeti, said the organization supported the use of traditional medicine in Africa’s healthcare systems but studies must be carried out to see if they work.

“We have offered to support the design of a study to look into this product. The WHO is in discussions with the Madagascan Government,” she said.
